Some parishes would prefer a weekend retreat rather than the standard four evening parish mission. This abreviated format includes all four celebrations found in the mission, but would exclude any possibility of additional celebrations. The mini-retreat for the team would take place on Friday evening. The retreat itself woulf begin on Saturday morning. Participants would gather in the parish church for the four celebrations. Meals, guided discussions or time for personal reflection could be built into the schedule between the various celebrations. The liturgies of the Word for children could be part of each celebration as well. The celebrations and liturgies of the Word for children are the same as those that are part of the parish mission. ![]() Friday Evening: Mini-retreat for local mission team. Saturday morning: First Celebration - We are People of the Covenant. The fourth celebration usually takes place during Mass. During Ordinary Time, it might be appropriate to do this using the scripture readings that are part of the mission celebration. However, during Advent, Lent or the Easter Season, the Mass of the Day should be celebrated and an abreviated form of the celebration could take place in the context of morning prayer, with Mass being celebrated later in the morning, using the readings assigned to that particular Sunday. The order of the celebrations is slightly different from the order of the celebrations during a parish mission. We are People of the Cross works better when there is little or no natural light coming though the church windows. The parish would still be responsible for travel, meals and housing for the members of the mission preaching team. We would also invite participants to consider becoming sponsors with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
