Weekend Retreat

Some parishes would prefer a weekend retreat rather than the standard four evening parish mission. This abreviated format includes all four celebrations found in the mission, but would exclude any possibility of additional celebrations. The mini-retreat for the team would take place on Friday evening.  The retreat itself woulf begin on Saturday morning. Participants would gather in the parish church for the four celebrations. Meals, guided discussions or time for personal reflection could be built into the schedule between the various celebrations. The liturgies of the Word for children could be part of each celebration as well.

The celebrations and liturgies of the Word for children are the same as those that are part of the parish mission.

Proclaiming Abundant Love

Friday Evening: Mini-retreat for local mission team.

Saturday morning: First Celebration - We are People of the Covenant.

Saturday afternoon: Second Celebration - We are People Reconciled in the Blood of Christ.

Saturday evening: Third Celebration - We are People of the Cross.

Sunday morning: Fourth Celebration - We are People of the Cup.

The fourth celebration usually takes place during Mass.  During Ordinary Time, it might be appropriate to do this using the scripture readings that are part of the mission celebration.  However, during Advent, Lent or the Easter Season, the Mass of the Day should be celebrated and an abreviated form of the celebration could take place in the context of morning prayer, with Mass being celebrated later in the morning, using the readings assigned to that particular Sunday.

The order of the celebrations is slightly different from the order of the celebrations during a parish mission.  We are People of the Cross works better when there is little or no natural light coming though the church windows.

Celebrating Unbounded Mercy

Friday Evening: Mini-retreat for local mission team.

Saturday morning: First Celebration - We are Redeemed, Forgiven, Reconciled.

Saturday afternoon: Second Celebration - We Recognize and Reverence the Presence of God in Others.

Saturday evening: Third Celebration - We are Already Reconciled with God.

Sunday morning: Fourth Celebration - We are Called to be Ambassadors of Reconciliation.

The fourth celebration usually takes place during Mass.  During Ordinary Time, it might be appropriate to do this.  However, during Advent, Lent or the Easter Season, the Mass of the Day should be celebrated and an abreviated form of the celebration could take place in the context of morning prayer, with Mass being celebrated later in the morning.

Gathering at the Lord's Table

Friday Evening: Mini-retreat for local mission team.

Saturday morning: First Celebration - We Gather as One: The Introductory Rites.

Saturday afternoon: Second Celebration - We Gather to Share the Word: The Liturgy of the Word.

Saturday evening: Third Celebration - We Gather to Offer Bread and Wine: The Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Sunday morning: Fourth Celebration - We Gather to be Sent into the World: The Concluding Rites.

Cost Adjustments

Doing the mission as a weekend retreat would also result in lower costs for the parish. The stipend would be $1,000.00. The parish would still be responsible for travel, meals and housing for the members of the mission preaching team.

We would also invite participants to consider becoming sponsors with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. More information about their ministry can be found toward the bottom of the Introduction page at this website.
